Alberta was enlarged and given provincial status.

SCHOOLS
The Alberta Legislature
has almost exclusive authority to make
laws respecting education.
There are 42 public school jurisdictions in Alberta,
and 17 operating separate school jurisdictions.
For many years the provincial government has funded the greater part of the cost of providing K~12 education.
Since 1994 there has continued to be a tax on property in support of
K~12 education; the mill rate is set by the provincial government,
the money is collected by the local municipal authority and
remitted to the provincial government.
The relevant legislation requires that all the money raised
by this property tax must go to the support of K~12 education
provided by school boards.
The provincial government pools the property tax funds from
across the province and distributes them, according to a formula.
Public and separate school boards, charter schools,
and private schools all follow the
Program of Studies and the curriculum approved by the
provincial department of education (Alberta Education).
Home schoolers may choose to follow the Program of Studies
or develop their own Program of Studies.
Public and separate schools, charter schools,
and approved private schools all employ teachers who are
certificated by Alberta Education, they administer
Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Examinations
set by Alberta Education, and they may grant high school
graduation certificates endorsed by Alberta Education.

Calgary held its first Agricultural Fair in October 1886.
That seed, planted where the Bow and Elbow Rivers join,
grew into the world~famous "Calgary Stampede".
The first "Stampede",
held in September 1912,
was billed as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth".
"the biggest frontier days show the world has ever seen...hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls...thousands of natives...Mexican ropers and riders...we'll make
Buffalo Bill's Wild West Extravaganza look like a side show"
...so said Guy Weadick
(trick roper, showman, performer, promoter, organizer extraordinaire and visionary creator of "The Stampede").
At that time, "The Stampede" was
still separate from the Agricultural Fair (then known as the Calgary Exhibition).
In 1923, after a successful courtship,
the Calgary Exhibition and "Stampede" became one and the same,
making a winning combination of
great rodeo excitement and agricultural exhibits.
The world's top~ranked cowboy competitors compete over 10 days
for million~dollar prizes,
making it the "world's richest ride in rodeo".
As Guy Weadick stated in 1912, "The money is here, come and get it".
