The name "Connecticut"
originates from the Mohegan word "quinnitukqut",
meaning "place of long tidal river."
The Connecticut River cuts through the center of the state,
flowing into Long Island Sound.
Connecticut is bordered on the south by Long Island Sound (Atlantic Ocean),
on the west by New York State,

part of the New York metropolitan area.
Called the "Constitution State,"
Connecticut was influential
in the development of early
American government.
There is a long history dating from the early colonial times.
The 1st major settlements were established in the 1630s.
In 1662, the various settlements in that region
merged under a royal charter,
making Connecticut a crown colony.
This colony was 1 of the 13 Colonies that
revolted against British rule in the
American Revolution.
George W. Bush, President of the United States,
was born in Connecticut.
He is a member of the Bush political family,
with roots in the state extending 3 generations.
The motto can be found on the Connecticut
coat of arms...
"QUI TRANSTULIT SUSTINET."
